The reduction in cost of lithium-ion batteries due to increased use in road vehicles and energy storage systems has opened the use of lithium-ion batteries in other motive power markets such as material handling, AGVs, and other traction power applications. The UL 2580 standard (the Standard for Safety on Batteries for Use in Electric Vehicles) is becoming a common requirement for these applications. It’s important to understand the requirements within this standard.

He has extensive regulatory and new product development experience for battery systems targeted for energy storage, motive power, and back-up power applications. He also has experience in functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 13849, and UL/CSA 60730. Michael has participated in the standards development process for applicable energy storage standards such as UL 9540 and NFPA 855.
